Memory is never an isolated island, but rather a dense and intricate primordial jungle, filled with unknown rules and connections. Artist Thunder’s background in biology grants him a unique "way of seeing": from microscopic cell division to the precise structure of DNA’s double helix, he distills the order of the microcosmos into visual symbols, reconstructing them through artistic processing into metaphor-rich imagery. In works like *Microscopic Imageries: Apocalypse of Painting*, he employs the fluidity of cell membranes to symbolize the dynamic equilibrium of social relationships, while using permutations of genetic sequences to map the evolutionary logic of human civilization. This transformation is not mere scientific illustration, but an experimental expression through color, line, and spatial composition that merges rational cognition with imaginative intuition. It is precisely this quality that renders his works particularly precious and distinctive in an increasingly flattened and homogenized world.
Every generation of artists must redefine art, for ultimately "what art is" is determined by artists themselves. The world perceived by the eyes is not the real world; acquired viewpoints are not knowledge. Only through logically reasoned contemplation can one approach genuine truth. This became my deepest realization after organizing his body of work.
Thunder’s creations demonstrate that art’s value lies not merely in aesthetic expression, but more importantly in its potential as a cognitive instrument. He transforms art into a "meta-language" that simultaneously reveals the aesthetic dimensions of scientific principles and critiques how technological rationality oversimplifies human experience. As he states: "Scientists study the laws governing the world, using these laws to serve humanity. Artists observe people, contemplate people, and care for people."
Here, we adopt the posture of explorers, armed with curiosity and reverence for the unknown, stepping into this lush jungle of memory to unravel the mysteries hidden within.
